In this tutorial, I am going to show you how to quickly and easily set-up your hosting account for your Derby business website.
This is part of a series to help you get your business online.
Setting up a website consists of five simple steps.
- How to Register a Domain Name
- How to Set Up a Web Hosting Account (You are here)
- How to Point DNS to Host
- How to Install a Website Platform for Your Derby Business Website
- How to Install a New Design or Theme
This is step number two of the process.
If you need to register a domain for your business, be sure to go back to step number one in the series.
Please note: I only recommend tools that I personally use and have used. Certain links on this page do contain a referral link, also known as an affiliate link. It works like this, I tell you about an amazing product or service, you click on the link and make a purchase, I earn a commission.
It is a way of saying thank you from the company for sending them a new customer, and by using the affiliate links, you are helping me to create even better content that will help you be more successful with your business. You can find a link to the DKP Marketing affiliate disclosure policy in the footer of the site for further information.
What is a Hosting Account?
A web hosting account is where you website files live. It is also the place that your domain name will have to point to so that your visitors see your website files.
When people type your domain name into a browser address bar, the domain tells the browser where your files live – points to your website files on the server provided by your hosting account.
Web hosting providers have large computers, called servers, that store the files of your website. You can edit these files through FTP clients or directly through your host account’s file management system.
There a many different hosting providers and I have a handful of companies that I personally use and recommend.
What Web Hosting Provider Should I Use?
The reason I use the following hosting providers is because they all provide excellent hosting environments and stellar customer support.
Another reason is their uptime. You don’t want your business website to be down for any reason and if it is, you want it to be for the briefest time possible. All these companies have great uptime scores.
SiteGround provide web hosting packages and specialist services such as WordPress hosting and WooCommerce hosting. The longer term you sign-up for the greater the discount. SiteGround offer amazing customer and technical support.
SiteGround provide Cloud Hosting, Dedicated Hosting, and Enterprise Hosting.
Bluehost have been a go to company for many years now and was the first hosting company I ever used. They are a reliable service provider and have packages for web hosting, WordPress hosting, and more.
Bluehost offer shared hosting, VPS hosting and dedicated hosting services. Just like SiteGround, the longer hosting term you sign-up for, the greater the discount you can access.
Kinsta provide dedicated WordPress hosting and costs more than it does to host with SiteGround and Bluehost. Kinsta are specialist WordPress hosting providers and the provide a powerful platform to launch your WordPress powered Derby business website.
WP Engine are another dedicated WordPress host provider. Just like Kinsta, it costs more to go with a dedicated host but you will also gain access to the powerful StudioPress Genesis Framework and WordPress themes, allowing you to quickly create a WP website for your business.
How to Set Up Hosting With SiteGround
The steps to set up hosting will be similar for any provider, but below I share the steps to get started with SiteGround.
I highly recommend you build your site using WordPress, if you wish to build a site using Joomla or Drupal, etc, you can still follow these steps below but start by choosing ‘web hosting’ instead. The steps will be the same afterwards and the pricing is the same.
Click on ‘Get Started’.
The following screen will show you the packages that are available to you. I recommend the GrowBig or GoGeek packages for more features and you will be able host unlimited websites.
Click on the ‘Get Plan’ button beneath your chosen package.
You will have the option to register a new domain with SiteGround.
You registered a domain through Namecheap on the previous step of these series so you will not need to register a new domain here (but the choice is yours).
Select ‘I already have a domain’ and enter the domain you registered with Namecheap. Be sure to type it exactly as it is and with the correct domain extension. Click on ‘Proceed’ to complete the registration process.
(1) Select the period for your hosting package. Remember, you make the biggest savings the longer the period of your hosting account. (2) Sign up for extra services that SiteGround offer. I highly recommend the SG Site Scanner, their monitoring service that checks your website daily and immediately notifies you if your website has been hacked or injected with malicious code.
(3) Confirm your selections and (4) click to ‘Pay Now’.
Congratulations. you’ve set-up hosting for your Derby business website.
You have now signed up for a web hosting account with a website host provider, and you are one step closer to having your Derby business website up and running.
The next step is to point DNS (domain name system/server) to host. This is the step that tells Namecheap where your website files are located on the web – with your new hosting account provider.
